When the topic of marriage comes into the conversation, everyone always has a piece of advice to give, from happy crazy tips, to dire scary warnings, the bottom line is, everyone would want a marriage to work. Sure the advices we get from our parents and godparents are all good and useful, but let us admit, sometimes they are not absolute. And there will be times when married couples would find themselves in need of advice that has more footing in times of trouble.
We at ImagineNation Photography would really want our couples to stay together as long as they can, and that means the rest of their lives. And with all the problems that will come in a marriage (yes, there will be), we encourage our couples to go to that little mysterious book that they include in their wedding accessories, you guessed it, it’s the Bible, the words from the one who made marriage in the first place… so with that in mind, we present to you some nice Bible verses we’ve encountered in the many weddings we have documented.
Here are our favorite 6 in no particular order:
1 Thessalonians 3:12
“May the Lord make your love increase and overflow for each other and for everyone else, just as ours does for you.”
We believe that our love for each other are like gas tanks, and sometimes we do get empty, it is our duty to our partners to fill each other’s “love tanks” whenever needed, but what if you both end up empty? We turn back to the source of love and ask for a refill.
1 Corinthians 13
(Yes, the whole chapter)
Yes we all know this one, “love is patient, love is kind…” blah blah blah, but do we really know how it works? Here’s how, you show love when you are already waiting for an hour and wouldn’t mind waiting an hour more, and love when your better half just stepped on your toes… twice! This is such a beautiful chapter, so I suggest you look it up yourself, better yet, look it up with your partner.
Ephesians 5:22-23
“Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which He is the Savior.”
This is one of the controversial verses regarding marriages, and it’s basically because of these two words (ladies, get ready) “Wives, submit…” not easy to take huh? But it has a lot of truth in it, in a marriage, everyone’s opinions should be heard and considered, but when the husband makes the decision, the wife should trust that her partner has made it for the benefit of the union.
Philippians 1:3
“I thank my God every time I remember you.”
Although it is sort of out of context (the writer was addressing the letter to his church), it is sweet, try saying this to your partner sometime, they’ll probably shrug it off, but who knows, maybe you’ll get a nice back rub just when you least expect it.
1 Peter 3:3-4
“Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.”
Sure sure, getting praises for being beautiful is nice and all, but when you ask the married veterans you know, it is what’s inside that counts. So start practicing that inner beauty!
Hebrews 13:4
“Give honor to marriage, and remain faithful to one another in marriage.”
Does this one really need explaining?
